The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has extended mandatory hallmarking with a six-digit HUID to additional districts, continuing the phased nationwide rollout. Registered jewellers in the newly notified areas must now sell only HUID-hallmarked gold jewellery.

Consumers can verify any piece using the BIS CARE app by entering the HUID. Industry bodies have welcomed the move as a step toward standardised purity and greater buyer trust.
