Understanding BIS Hallmark

Everything you need to know about the Bureau of Indian Standards hallmark for gold jewellery.

What is BIS Hallmark?

BIS Hallmark is a quality certification mark given by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the national standards body of India. It certifies that a piece of gold jewellery conforms to the standards of purity specified by the BIS.

Since June 2021, hallmarking of gold jewellery is mandatory in India. This ensures consumers get exactly the purity they pay for.
